- Itinerary of Events July 4th - July 6th

Friday July 4th

Arlington West Memorial Santa Monica will be set up from Friday morning July 4th, and will remain until take down by sunset on Sunday, July 6th.

Please join Los Angeles Catholic Worker and American Friends Service Committee for a memorial service and peace walk along Palisades Park in Santa Monica. Meet at Arlington West Santa Monica at 11am, July 4th on the north side of the pier at Santa Monica Beach. A silent procession will proceed from the memorial, up the pier access road up to Ocean Blvd and will proceed along the beautiful Palisades Park overlooking the ocean. View the flyer for this event here. download the 4th of July announcement

A candle-lit vigil will take place - wind permitting - on the evening of July 4th. Candles will be placed beginning at approximately 4 PM on July 4th.

The setting up and taking down of the memorial is a monumental task! Volunteers are welcome to come and participate in this endeavor. To volunteer, simply come and introduce yourself. Look for us on the north side of the pier at Santa Monica. Public parking on the pier or in the main lot at beach level generally costs $6-$8 per day. There is a 2-hour parking lot available nearby for $1 per hour. The 2-hour limit is strictly enforced by parking enforcement officials. Also, please come prepared with sun protection.

Assistance is needed in preparing the beach for proper use of the memorial. Clearing debris in and around the perimeter and confines of the memorial, sweeping the boardwalk, proper positioning and alignment of the indivdual markers, installing the picture boards, setting up information table canopies, are all areas where we can use your help. Please be mindful that Veterans For Peace is a non-profit organization and as an organization we maintain a non-partisan and non-sectarian position. Arlington West is a project of Veterans For Peace, an organization that has chapters nationwide. Arlington West Santa Monica is maintained by the volunteers and members of the Los Angeles Chapter of Veterans For Peace.

Saturday July 5th

Arlington West Santa Monica will be available for visiting all day and into the evening. No events planned or scheduled. A candle lit vigil might be held on Saturday evening if wind factor did not permit candles on eve of July 4th.

Sunday July 6th

Volunteers will begin the take down of the memorial beginning around 3:30 pm. Volunteers are greatly appreciated and much needed during this phase of the project.

As always, the Los Angeles Chapter of Veterans For Peace strives to maintain the memorial in all manners respectful of those we've lost and the loved ones they leave behind.
